Our Story

“The true heroes of the new millennium will be servant leaders, quietly working out of the spotlight to transform our world.”  -Ann McGee Cooper

This is a quote that has been branded in the heart of professional baseball player, Cartier “Niko” Goodrum. No stranger to servant leadership, Niko has been dedicated to using his platform to help those in need attain their goals by providing essential tools to give them a jumpstart on the journey. Joining the MLB Detroit Tigers’ organization in 2018, Niko quickly made his presence felt in the State of Michigan. While his 16 homeruns, 53 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases that year were certainly recognition worthy, they did not hold a candle to what immediately followed.

Niko momentarily removed his cleats, and put on his servant cap, donating over 1,400 cases of water to the residents of Flint, Michigan in the height of a water crisis.  Those efforts would be more than doubled the very next year, when he and a few of his teammates would donate over 3,000 cases of water to the Flint residents.  This has been an ongoing venture for him.

On May 20, 2020, doGOODthings, Inc., was officially founded as a 501(c)3 domestic non-profit corporation with the mission of mentoring/training student-athletes to hit home runs on and off the diamond to become adults who make a positive difference in the world.  Some of the ways we have mentored/trained the students have been through:  Baseball Camps, Back to School Supplies Drives, Student/Athlete Book Scholarships, Pre-Game Meals for high schools, and Hardship Grants, just to name a few.

Our goal is to help prepare students to earn a college scholarship. And in return, they will hopefully one day pay it forward by contributing their skills toward making this world a better place. With the support of our sponsors, donors, and volunteers, we can be that beacon of light and hope for a brighter and better future.
